The portion removed during the craniectomy was stored to be replaced later. She was taken to a highly regarded academic center, where within hours of the fall she had had part of her skull removed to relieve pressure on the brain. Her biggest attribute toward her recovery has been attitude. So with the sun rising and Joel kneeling up on the Zip Line platform - the place they had used as a place to truly get to know each other - Joel asked Jenna to marry him.
The team concept is one of the unique aspects of the program. Jenna kept telling her friends to help her avoid boys; however, a few of the fellow camp counselors intervened and hinted to Jenna and Joel that the respective person liked the other. These days, Jenna works most often with speech therapist and program manager Lori Dryg. Attitude was one of the things Jenna had going for her. Jenna now has little goals and major goals. She was paralyzed temporarily on the right side.
In some ways, out of near-tragedy, good has come. Even through the distance, they have remained fast friends and close, and soon will live in the same state: Sofia is not only a friend but almost a sister to Jenna. Something she's desperately wanted all her life and is so thankful for the opportunity to add a sister into the family with an upcoming marriage to her brother. From their their friendship cultivated and even though there was a period of disconnect, they have rebuilt their relationship and continually consider every time they have together to be a blessing. This really turned into a whirlwind of events that ended up with Jenna in South Carolina to acquire her Masters degree in Social Work and Joel deciding that the military lifestyle was not what he wanted for his future.
Two of major goals are driving again — she already has clearance, except from her parents — and returning to Wisconsin-Platteville for her senior year this fall. This soon began their journey of unknown answers, long distance, and many tears and goodbyes. She wanted her life back. For Jenna, she had been working at a summer camp in Iowa for the 4 previous summers and decided for a change scenery and headed west to the mountains in Colorado. The Prestons made a middle-of-the-night trip to Madison. Jenna is regaining her speech and writing skills, she regained her mobility and is able to exercise.
Jenna also has worked with a therapeutic recreation specialist, physical therapist and occupational therapist. Chapman actually had quite a role to play in Joel and Jenna's relationship and without him their relationship may never have taken off the ground. When she puts the second box in a reverse, you can really see her crushing power. Jenna has found the time to be joyful getting to know Sofia, despite living thousands of miles apart.
They had both decided to work at the summer camp Eagle Lake, which is affiliated with the Navigators, a place Joel grew up going to most of his childhood. Joel is now working as an engineer in Denver where they both want to live after the wedding. This being said, neither had any intention of a relationship that summer and it came as a real surprise when both realized they had feelings for the other. When it's all said and done, the producer tries to explain to Jenna that she doesn't get paid until the video gets released. She said yes and they've been eagerly waiting the next chapter in their lives ever since!
